Manufacturing trio combine to aid construction supplier on revolutionary new product

THREE Midlands manufacturers have provided a high tech tooling solution to a leading building supplies company.

Keystone & IG Masonry Supports, based in Swadlincote, is one of the UK’s biggest lintel and masonry support companies.

It has developed a revolutionary brick on soffit system which is favoured by the construction industry because it radically reduces on site labour requirements.

The new system called for some very high tech tooling options which involved the firm working with long-time supplier, SSC Laser. It also drafted in the support of Threeway Pressings and Pemberton Engineering. All three firms are members of Made In The Midlands.

Andy Evans, managing director, SSC said: “The manufacture of specialised press tooling was beyond our expertise, however, we saw the massive potential in the (brick on soffit) product and didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to carry on working with IG on the project.”

Evans said that during a development meeting at IG he had suggested drafting in Phil Stanley, the managing director of Tipton-based Threeway Pressings, which is recognised for its toolmaking capabilities.

Once involved, Threeway Pressings helped to make the brackets for the new product.

Pemberton Engineering, based in Willenhall, was called in to design and manufacture the tooling.

Operations Director, Darren Pemberton said: “Phil and Andy visited me to explain what was required, we were very confident that we could produce the tooling to give the consistency of product IG required and manufactured the tool within four weeks.”

Tim Turner, Operations Manager for IG Masonry Supports in Swadlincote, said: “The three Made In The Midlands members were determined to find a solution to our requirements and we are delighted with the outcome. We look forward to working with them on future projects.”
