Lifestyle: Top Savile Row tailor heads for Birmingham

A TOP Savile Row tailor is turning his attention to the second city by getting involved in Selfridges Birmingham’s Live + Loud festival.
Richard James is bringing his exclusive made to measure service, featuring a range of the latest designs, to Level 4 of the department store on Friday (October 2) between 10am and 6pm as part of the many events lined up for the new festival, which celebrates the best in new fashion and design.
Adam Hockney, general manager of Selfridges Birmingham, said: “Savile Row is world-renowned as the byword for best British tailoring and Richard James has established a reputation for its bold, progressive take on the timeless and traditional, since becoming the first of the ‘New Establishment’ tailors there.
“We are thrilled to bring this service to Birmingham and showcase their exciting designs, as part of the Live + Loud event, which is set to be huge for the city.”
Olok Banerjee, commercial manager for Richard James, said the brand was excited by the prospect of coming to Birmingham.
“Craftmanship, service and expertise are integral to Richard James. Our philosophy is to produce classic clothing of unsurpassable quality, but to push the boundaries through design, colour and cut. We work closely with the best woollen mills and the most exacting artisans in Britain and Italy to design and produce our exclusive fabrics and handmade accessories,” said Banerjee.
The tailoring service will form just a small part of Selfridge’s inaugural Live + Loud festival in Birmingham, which features some of Britain’s most talented artists, photographers, musicians and designers.
Top names lined up during the four-day festival include fashion designer Ashley Williams, celebrity photographer Tyrone Lebon, film duo Tim & Barry, Birmingham soul singer Jacob Banks and up-and-coming home-grown talent including female MC RoxXxan and Call Me Unique.
There will also be beauty and fashion pop-ups and specialist talks in store, which will which are intended to resonate with the city’s underground music and fashion scenes.
