Solihull knocked off top position in UK Quality of Life Index

EDINBURGH has taken top spot from Solihull in the latest UK Quality of Life Index.
The index, compiled by uSwitch.com, ranks the best and worst places to live in the UK.
Solihull was top of the pile last year but the Scottish capital has leapt 97 places to take the number one position.
The research assessed 138 local areas on 26 different factors including employment rate, average gross income, exam results, house prices, average weekly rents, crime rates, life expectancy, hours of sunshine and energy prices, to provide a picture of the quality of life in each region.
Edinburgh has the lowest reported crime rate in the UK, cheap petrol and energy bills, high average salaries of £29,588 and disposable household income of £20,083, as well as fast average broadband download speeds of 30Mbs.
Some 16 out of the 20 biggest falling regions are English, with Bradford and Hull rooted at the foot of the table. There were no West Midlands areas in the bottom ten.
