Smith & Nephew chief executive diagnosed with cancer

MEDICAL technology business Smith & Nephew has announced that chief executive Olivier Bohuon has been diagnosed with cancer.
The firm, whose UK orthopaedics operation is based at Warwick Technology Park, said he will remain chief executive and be actively involved in running the company throughout his treatment.
Treatment will include chemotherapy, and is expected to be completed by late autumn.
Bohuon has been diagnosed with a “highly treatable” but unidentified form of cancer.
The board of the firm – the creator of the Birmingham Hip – has approved governance procedures to ensure the effective operation of Smith & Nephew during the treatment period. Chairman Roberto Quarta will provide executive oversight if required.
Quarta said, “Olivier has set a clear strategy that is invigorating Smith & Nephew’s growth profile.
“I am confident that Olivier and his team will continue to execute the plan successfully. Our thoughts are with him as he undergoes treatment.”
