Severe fire damages offices of Birmingham tyre firm

ALMOST 100 firefighters from across Birmingham were drafted in to deal with a sever fire at the offices of tyre manufacturer Goodyear Dunlop.

Fire crews spent fire hours overnight bringing the blaze under control.

The fire began in offices used by the company, whose former factory was sold to Jaguar Land Rover two years ago so the carmaker could expand its Castle Bromwich plant.

The fire is thought to have started around 7pm on Thursday and while the fire was brought under control shortly before midnight. Crews spent the night at the scene damping down.

Nobody was injured in the fire and cause is being investigated.

The blaze was visible from the nearby Fort Shopping Centre and there were major problems in the roads surrounding the offices and retail park due to several closures.

Residents living nearby were advised to keep their windows closed in case of fumes.
