100 tonnes of plastic catch fire at waste recycling plant

40 FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze yesterday at a Shropshire recycling unit caused by 100 tonnes of plastic catching fire.

Seven fire engines attended the fire at the Tudor Griffiths centre, in Ellesmere, and were there for more than five hours. No-one is thought to have been injured in the fire.

Jon Temple, of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We do not yet know the exact cause but it is likely to be material within the waste which has caused the combustion.”

Tudor Griffiths Group has four divisions, including Waste Services. Its Ellesmere site looks after landfill and materials recovery.
