Colliers chooses new head of Birmingham office

REAL estate firm Colliers International has appointed Jon Cookson as the head of its Birmingham office.

He replaces David Smeeton who joined Cushman & Wakefield in February after two decades at Colliers, including nine years as head of the office. Head of rating John Webber had been interim head during the transition.

Colliers’ UK chief executive Tony Horrell said: “Birmingham is our largest office outside of London, with 105 employees and rising, therefore it was essential that we appointed a leader that would possess the entrepreneurial spirit and high integrity that could really make a difference in the region – Jon certainly meets that brief.”

Mr Cookson has led Colliers’ 20-strong corporate restructuring team since 2008 and he will continue to do this role alongside his Birmingham responsibilities.

“Colliers’ Birmingham office reported its tenth consecutive year of growth in 2015, so it’s certainly an exciting time to be taking on this role,” said Mr Cookson. “Birmingham too is going through somewhat of a transformation in terms of property regeneration and, as a business, we possess the full spectrum of property specialisms to make the most of the opportunities that arise, not just in Birmingham but across the Midlands region and beyond.”

The firm’s recent successes include advising Rigby Group on the £55m sale of Imperial Park at Coventry Airport and GLL Real Estate’s acquisition of 1 Brindleyplace from Trinova Real Estate.
