Travel Update: Rail problems persist on West Midlands network

PROBLEMS persist on the West Midlands rail network, with many train operators forced to introduce replacement bus services to ferry passengers between stations.

The network has been disrupted for much of the day following overhead power problems at Birmingham International.

Currently, CrossCountry has a replacement bus service running between Coventry and Birmingham New Street. It said tickets were being accepted on Bus 900 and 11 and Arriva Trains Wales services.

Virgin Trains West Coast is also running a replacement bus service between Coventry and Birmingham International.

It has also announced service cancellations between Carlisle and London Euston due to the problems at Birmingham International. Tickets are being accepted on Arriva Trains Wales and CrossCountry services.

There is currently no London Midland service between Coventry and Birmingham New Street and it too has a replacement bus service operating between the two stations. Tickets are being accepted on local bus routes and London Underground services.

Arriva Trains Wales currently has no service between Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International.

Engineers are working on repairs but delays are said to be severe.
