Sertec boss turns TV star to berate Villa

THE boss of Coleshill-based automotive supplier Sertec has turned into an unlikely TV star – although Grant Adams’ appearance on the box has nothing to do with his company’s success.

The football-mad managing director was the turn on the BBC’s Match of the Day 2 last night.

Each week the programme focuses on a football club from the fans’ perspective and this week it was the turn of Aston Villa.

Mr Adams is a life-long supporter of the Villa and even debated the club’s performance with David Cameron when the Prime Minister visited the Sertec factory last year to open an extension.

The manufacturer was given a two-minute slot on the programme to talk passionately about the plight on his club, claiming that the players in today’s team were not a patch on some of the greats he has seen grace Villa Park over the years of which he included Brian Little, Ken McNaught, Gordon Cowans and Paul McGrath.

He spoke about the club’s performance back in the Third Division and how he followed them all the way to European Cup glory.

He even spoke about cancelling a family holiday to Barbados simply so he could watch his beloved team.

He said while it had been a dire season for the club and relegation would almost inevitably follow the club’s appearance at Old Trafford next week, the true fans would stay with the club through thick and thin and would cheer the team on throughout next season’s Championship campaign.

Ironically, one of the studio summarisers on last night’s programme was Tim Sherwood, the man Vila sacked earlier this season after eight months in charge following a run of poor results.
