Black Sabbath set to play last ever live gigs in Birmingham

THE band who gave heavy metal to the world, Birmingham’s own Black Sabbath have announced dates for their last ever live shows in their home city.

After a momentous five decades – although not always with the original line-up – the band are finally calling it a day.

The band last played in Birmingham in December 2013 as part of the 13 Tour and the first show sold out so quickly that the band was forced to hastily arrange a second date two days later.

Original members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler are currently embarking on their farewell tour, The End, which sees them playing dates across Europe.

Their final eight UK dates will be in January next year and the band will conclude their life on the road suitably where it all began, in Birmingham.

There are just two dates scheduled – February 2 and 4 at the Genting Arena – but whether this proves to satisfy what it expected to be a huge demand for tickets remains to be seen.

Ian Congdon, Genting Arena’s Head of Venue Sales, said: “It will be an honour and a privilege to have Black Sabbath back on home turf for their final shows in the birthplace of heavy metal.  For them to play their final shows back where it all began in Birmingham will be an emotional, historic and momentous homecoming not to be missed.”
