Aston Villa confirms sale of the club clears final hurdle

ASTON Villa has officially confirmed the sale of football club to Chinese company, Recon Group, owned by Dr Tony Xia.

The final hurdle was overcome when the deal – estimated at between £60-£75m – was given the seal of approval by the Football League.

The league has informed Dr Xia he passed the owners and directors test, effectively meaning that he is a fit and proper person to own a football club.

Following the completion of the necessary paperwork, Dr Xia is now the club’s official new owner and chairman in succession to Randy Lerner.

A brief statement on the club’s website said a new board would be appointed later this week.

It is thought one of his first duties will be to assign new manager Roberto di Matteo the funds necessary to ensure the club makes a quick return from the Championship to the Premier League.
