Tiger with new stripes builds another lair

SCANDINAVIAN retailer Flying Tiger Copenhagen, which has recently rebranded from Tiger, is celebrating success in Birmingham as it marks its 10th anniversary of being in the UK.

Flying Tiger Copenhagen, an international chain of quirky design stores, was founded in Denmark in 1995 before heading east. The retailer’s success is another step in Scandinavian admiration in the UK, with the likes of IKEA and Clas Ohlson firmly making their mark on Britain’s retail industry.

The company employs more than 3,000 people worldwide with 300 of them being based in the West Midlands in the past two years after opening 20 stores in the region.

The first ever British Tiger store was opened in Solihull in 2005 and the company have since opened stores in Worcester, Dudley and Birmingham’s Grand Central. It latest move was to open a concession store in the Bullring’s department store Selfridges – the first time the Scandinavian chain has opened inside another store.

Jon Edwards, director at Tiger Midlands, said: “We are excited to bring our quirky, own-designed products, to Selfridges’ customers.”

“We also want to send a positive message at a time of uncertainty in British business. Our European-based parent company is continuing to invest heavily in the UK, with no signs of stopping.”

Flying Tiger Copenhagen prides itself on having its own innovation and design department which works with designers and artists from around the world to come up with fun ideas for homeware, toys, gifts, snacks, electronics and gadgets.
