Third body recovered from Didcot A power station rubble

THE body of another of the four workers killed when they were trapped under thousands of tons of rubble following the collapse of a building at Didcot A power station has been recovered.

All four men were working for Great Barr demolition firm Coleman & Co when the incident happened in February.

The body of Christopher Huxtable was recovered from under the debris on August 31. The body of Michael Collings was the first to be recovered, shortly after the collapse of the 10-storey boiler plant.

Emergency services personal and contractors working on the demolition project formed a guard of honour as the body of the third man – thought to be either Ken Cresswell or John Shaw – was taken away from the site.

The families of both men, who are both from Rotherham, were at the scene and are being supported  by specially trained Thames Valley Police officers.

Recovery was completed by specialists from Thames Valley Police, Fire and Rescue’s Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) and the South Central Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Recovery Team (HART).

Formal identification will be completed by the coroner.

Mark Coleman, managing director of Coleman & Co, said: “Everyone at Coleman & Co is now hopeful that our remaining missing colleague is found very soon, so that all the families affected by this tragic incident can lay their loved ones to rest.

“All the families have no doubt suffered terribly, especially the three families that have had to endure an agonising wait during this complex and unprecedented recovery operation. It’s only right that we continue to acknowledge the hard work and professionalism of all agencies involved – thank you all.”
