Staffordshire pub crowned Regional pub of the Year

A PUB in Staffordshire has been crowned Regional pub of the year and named among the top 16 in the country by the Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) latest edition of its Good Beer Guide.

The guide – which features a wide range of pubs from community owned to micropubs – forms part of the nationwide search for the National Pub of the Year.

The Earl Grey Inn in Leek – which has only been open for two years – has been awarded the title of the region’s best pub and will go on to compete against 15 other regional winners for the top spot as  National pub of the Year.

Landlord at the pub, Mark Sybotham said: “We tried to avoid big names like Carling and I think we’ve caught the market at the right time in terms of the craft beer revolution. Our pub is beer led, so there’s no food here – the beer and the customers are the most important thing.

“We try to embrace that traditional pub feeling too, fitting the brief that a pub should be an extension of your own living room. We were taken by surprise to have reached this level already, but we’re still looking ahead to win the national award if we can.”
