The race is on for the Midlands’ Best Deli

THE Midlands’ best delicatessens are being honoured in a new competition designed to highlight a niche sector of the region’s food offering.

Ten shops from across the East and West Midlands have been shortlisted for the title of Midlands Best Deli.

The competition, now in its fifth year, has been organised by the BBC Good Food Show ahead of its next show at the NEC in November.

The shortlised delis are:

•    The Deli in Boldmere
•    Anderson & Hill, Birmingham
•    Basilia, Nottingham
•    Deli In The Square, Leicester
•    Delice Deli & Café, Loughborough
•    Legges of Bromyard, Herefordshire
•    Old Theatre Deli, Southwell
•    Pronto, Stoke-On-Trent
•    Squisito, Northamptonshire
•    The Eight Foot Grocer, Birmingham

The winner will receive a free stand at the BBC Good Food Show Winter at the NEC from November 24-27, 2016 so that it can showcase its produce to the tens of thousands of people expected to visit the show.

The competition has been organised in conjunction with BBC Good Food magazine, where food editor and competition judge, Barney Desmazery said: “I’m really pleased to form part of this year’s judging panel once again.

“This is the fifth year we have run this competition and it’s a fantastic opportunity for Midlands’ farm shops and delis to promote themselves to thousands of food fans from the region and ultimately win at stand at the BBC Good Food Show.”

The shortlisted delis will be visited by judges who will assess the range of international and local produce, quality and value of produce, product knowledge and enthusiasm, customer service and services, facilities and community involvement.

In addition to Mr Desmazery, the judging panel includes Laura Biggs, managing director, BBC Good Food Shows and Catriona Banks, speciality food manager, BBC Good Food Shows.
