NEC boldly goes where no exhibition has been before

STAR Trek fans from across the West Midlands get the chance to indulge their inner Trekkie this weekend when the National Exhibition Centre stages the Destination Star Trek convention.

The event promises to be a special celebration as this autumn marks the 50th anniversary of the first screening of the original series.

In recognition of this, the star of the event will be none other than Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner, who will be appearing at the convention’s main stage tomorrow (Saturday) to talk about his life on the show and the subsequent seven films he went on to appear in.

He will also be posing for pictures and signing autographs along with his TV and film co-star George Takei, better known as Sulu.

Regulars from the various spin-off series including Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise will also be appearing, as will film star Christopher Lloyd who played Kruge, the renegade Klingon commander of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock but who is perhaps best known as Doc Brown from the Back to the Future films.

As well as meeting the various crew members, Destination Star Trek, which is set to be Europe’s biggest Star Trek celebration, fans will also have the chance to explore interactive exhibits, learn about Star Trek’s impact on science, space and technology, and enjoy parties fit for a golden anniversary.

William Shatner’s appearance on Saturday night is based on his hit Broadway One Man Show ‘Shatner’s World’.
It’s billed as a show about passion, where he speaks amongst other things, about love, death, motorcycles and gorillas, boldly going where no Star Trek captain has beenbefore.

The event is exclusive to Destination Star Trek Europe and is said to be a must for all Star Trek fans. It is the first time the show has been seen in the UK.
