5 Alice in Wonderland quotes to help you out today

Ideally this would be a “How Donald Trump’s presidency will affect British business” piece, but we’ve no idea. Mostly because we don’t reckon he’s any idea either.
If we had to nail our colours to the mast, we would incline towards civil servant Sir Richard Mottram’s unforgettable quote. Failing that, we could follow Theresa May’s approach to these things and say “Trump means Trump” and hope nobody asks for more details.
So instead we thought it best to call upon the only person who has been here before. Not Woodrow Wilson – he at least served 18 months in political office before he was elected President in 1912 – but Alice in Wonderland. After all, she’s already been through the looking glass…
‘I can’t believe that!’ said Alice.
‘Can’t you?’ the Queen said in a pitying tone. ‘Try again: draw a long breath, and shut your eyes.’
Alice laughed. ‘There’s no use trying,’ she said: ‘one can’t believe impossible things.’
‘I daresay you haven’t had much practice,’ said the Queen. ‘When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
“I knew who I was this morning, but I’ve changed a few times since then.”

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”
“If you drink much from a bottle marked ‘poison’ it is certain to disagree with you sooner or later.”
“I think you might do something better with the time than waste it in asking riddles that have no answers.”
