Data destruction firm acquired by rival

A SHROPSHIRE data destruction business has been acquired by a Midlands rival in a deal which paves the way for new jobs.

Shifnal-based WN Security Shredding has been acquired by Chaffinch Document, which is headquartered in Stoke-on-Trent. Chaffinch Document specialises in secure document storage and secure shredding.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The move heralds the creation of five new jobs spread across both Stoke-on-Trent and Shropshire, alongside the opening of Chaffinch Document’s new 6,000 sq ft facility on Fenton Industrial Estate.

Chaffinch, part of the Chaffinch Group of companies, is now looking to expand its existing customer base across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Cheshire and the West Midlands.

Alastair Machin, Chaffinch Group managing director said: “This is a great acquisition for us.  We have acquired and protected a long standing business of 27 years which complements our existing services and will create new jobs immediately.

“We are fully committed to all of WN Shredding’s existing customers, and intend to build on their reputation for excellent service across the region whilst looking to increase our customer base across Shropshire, the West Midlands and beyond.

“By offering increasingly specialised compliance and data protection services it will add another dimension to our business. Our processes allow us to protect the information of our clients and their customers, whilst providing environmentally-responsible solutions to an ever-growing challenge.”

Used paper from offices will  be shredded and formed into half-tonne bales which are collected and taken to paper mills which in turn process it into toilet paper and kitchen roll.

Chaffinch Group, which celebrated its fifth birthday earlier in 2016, has seen revenues grow by 50% in the past financial year, alongside an expansion of its workforce.

“Our activities across the group have been growing steadily and I’m hoping to create up to five additional jobs in the next twelve months. These roles will increase our business coverage with operational  presences in both Staffordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire,” added Mr Machin.
