Chambers backed by NatWest to deliver new funding

THE Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce has been selected to deliver a funding scheme aimed at supporting disadvantaged groups by getting their to enter the world of commerce.

The NatWest Skills & Opportunities Fund has allocated a £35,000 boost to the chambers to enable them to deliver a business start-up and mentoring programme with an emphasis on women and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.

The Skills & Opportunities Fund was launched in 2015, since when it has awarded £5m to organisations that help people in disadvantaged communities by giving them opportunities to develop, create or access the skills they need to help themselves.

Adele Cope, Head of Business Growth at Staffordshire Chambers, said: “We are very excited to be a part of this amazing programme. The money will help us to build on our already highly successful Mentoring for Growth and Business Start-Up programme and will be tailored to specifically help disadvantaged individuals access the skills and opportunities that they need to start a business or access employment.”

As part of this project the chambers’ team of business advisers, alongside their volunteer mentors will deliver the five stage programme which will include business start-up masterclasses, finance workshops, business planning workshops and tours of local businesses.

Staffordshire Chambers aims to engage with 60 clients from disadvantaged groups, resulting in 20 business start-ups, and a further ten clients entering employment.
