Crucial warehouse development reaches pivotal stage

A new warehouse project on St. Modwen’s Centurion Park site in Tamworth has reached an important stage in its development with the completion of steelwork and work starting on its roof and cladding.

The 153,000 sq ft warehouse facility, dubbed CP153, could create up to 200 new jobs when it is ready for occupation next spring.

Demand for units of this size in the Midlands is currently high and there are fears a lack of supply could impact the region’s economy unless more speculative projects are brought forward.

St. Modwen was granted detailed planning consent for the new warehouse by North Warwickshire Borough Council in June last year. Since then, contractor Bowmer & Kirkland has been working on the construction of the unit.

Jonathan Green, senior development surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “Centurion Park is without doubt one of our most popular developments within the Midlands portfolio, and the interest we have already received in the new unit highlights the demand for high quality warehouse space in this prime location.

“With the steelwork complete and the roofing and cladding underway, you can really get a sense of the true scale of the building. There has been a great demand for this type of space in the region, and we expect to find an occupier soon.”

Ranjit Gill, director at Savills said: “CP153 (below) is coming through at exactly the right time with good quality accommodation across the region at an all-time low.”

Centurion Park is already home to AAH Pharmaceuticals, Aldi, Speedy Hire and Norbert Dentressangle; while last year St. Modwen completed a deal with furniture company DFS for a new 53,000 sq ft unit.
