Plant hire group lifts JCB with £9m order

Staffordshire excavator manufacturer JCB has continued its strong start to 2017 with a £9m contract win.

Following a £115m order from the US Army and a £5.5m deal with a Scottish plant hire business, the Rocester-based group has secured a new order for 160 of its Loadall telescopic handlers.

Nixon Hire, which operates from 14 depots across the UK and one in Doha, Qatar, will take delivery of the new machines over the next few weeks. The machines have been bought through JCB dealer Scot JCB.

Graham Nixon, managing director, Nixon Hire, said: “Nixon Hire is delighted to further cement its solid partnership with JCB with this large telehandler order. We pride ourselves in offering modern, technologically advanced products from market leading brands and JCB certainly meets this criteria.

“Having worked together successfully for many years, we know it’s a name we can trust to deliver a quality and reliable product to our customers.”

Dan Thompstone, UK and Ireland Sales Director, JCB, said: “2017 is a momentous year for JCB Loadall telescopic handlers as we mark 40 years of production of a machine which quite literally changed the materials handling market beyond recognition. We are delighted to start what is a milestone year with a fantastic order from one of our biggest UK customers.”

Family-run Nixon Hire, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary, has also confirmed its acquisition of the Nottingham site previously owned by Hewden. The multi-million pound deal sees the company take ownership of the plant equipment and premises.

Mr Nixon added: “Many of the machines as part of this order will stock the recently acquired site in Nottingham.  This new depot is in a prime location for Nixon Hire and falls in line with our plans for expanding our depot network further south.  I can confirm that we will offer our customers products from each of our divisions to include plant, accommodation, toilet and welfare facilities.”
