Staffordshire flags up development opportunities to MIPIM investors

Staffordshire’s investment potential is being flagged up to investors at the MIPIM property exhibition in Cannes.

The county council is highlighting new opportunities at both the Kingswood Lakeside development in Cannock and the Redhill Business Park at Stafford.

Redhill is home to GE’s new facility with construction of another under way, while Kingswood Lakeside has seen a number of recent developments with firms such as Veolia and HellermannTyton operating there.

It was announced late last year that two industrial units covering 14 acres and providing a total of 283,000 sq ft of accommodation were to be built at Kingswood Lakeside. The £21m scheme is being aided by £7m from the Combined Investment Fund (CIF). The development could sustain more than 400 new jobs.

Low levels of unemployment and a good skills base, together with easy transport connections have all been put forward by the local authority as reasons to invest in the county.

County council economic growth leader Mark Winnington is hosting an event at MIPIM today (Thursday), in conjunction with Stafford Borough Council leader Patrick Farrington, to showcase developments in Staffordshire.

Attendees for the event include International Trade Minister Greg Hands, together with Housing and Planning Minister Gavin Barwell.

Supporting the case will be Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership, which is attending the MIPIM exhibition alongside all of the Midlands LEPs involved in the Midlands Engine Strategy.

Cllr Winnington said: “We are expecting imminent development announcements at both Kingswood Lakeside and Redhill which will further boost already thriving business parks.

“This is more good news for Staffordshire at a time when we’re continuing to see record low unemployment. Our focus on supporting the creation of better paid jobs means attracting new investment from home and abroad. There is a great deal of confidence in Staffordshire and we will build on that to ensure it remains a great place to do business.”

The latest unemployment claimant count figure for Staffordshire represents just 1% of the county population, compared to a regional figure of 2.4% and a national figure of 1.9%.
