Redditch set to be shaken – not stirred – by the town’s first orangery & cocktail lounge

The team behind Birmingham-based cocktail bars, Gas Street Social, The Sky Bar and Lost & Found are shaking things up in Redditch this spring with the launch of the town’s first orangery and cocktail lounge.

Shaker Consultancy – which owns bars both nationally and internationally, including venues in Kenilworth, London and even Cape Town – will be opening Orangery Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge at Old Rectory House, Ipsley early next month.

The newly-built restaurant will feature a 90-seat dining room overlooking the terrace and historic gardens and will specialise in fresh, sharable modern European cuisine.

As well as the cocktails, locally sourced rare breed 28-day dry aged steaks with Himalayan salt will also be a speciality at the venue.

General manager Lindsey Turner said: “Old Rectory House has stood on the Ipsley site for several hundred years and is one the most significant historical buildings in the region, having played host to Lords and Ladies in years gone by.

“Most of the people we speak to in Redditch don’t even know this hidden gem exists; you really will feel like you are being transported into the middle of the Warwickshire countryside or the Cotswolds for that matter.”

During the week, diners can expect a daytime set menu and on summer evenings, an open fire to sit around sipping cocktails.

The heated terrace and newly landscaped gardens at Old Rectory House have been designed for weddings, garden parties and afternoon tea.

The venue will continue to be available for exclusive hire weddings and bespoke events catering for between 20 and 150 guests in the house, and up to 150 guests in the grounds.

New food and beverage manager Scott Walker, formerly of Gas Street Social at Birmingham’s Mailbox, said: “We’re really excited to be opening the Orangery Restaurant and Redditch’s first cocktail lounge.

“We’ve brought together an experienced and energetic team to create a design-led food and beverage offer, which we believe will be a great addition to Redditch and the surrounding areas.”

At the 30-seater cocktail lounge, a large drinks menu featuring handcrafted signature cocktails from Shaker Consultancy will be the main attraction, along with a rotating selection of craft beers on tap and in bottles. And for those with an inclination towards fine wines, an extensive international wine menu will be on offer.

The venue will also be serving up bottomless brunch and its special ‘family roast’. With roast rib of beef, slow cooked pork, whole roasted free-range chickens and seven-hour lamb shoulder all served with roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, mashed potatoes, proper homemade Yorkshire puddings and plenty of gravy, the family roast is intended to offer an alternative to the typical Sunday lunch.
