Rolls-Royce ties up THAI order

AERO engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce has secured another multi-million pound order for its Trent 700 power plant.

The Derby-based business has been commissioned by THAI Airways to supply seven of the engines for its Airbus A330 aircraft.

The order, which includes the group’s TotalCare long-term service agreement, is worth £245m ($390m) at current list prices. The aircraft will be delivered from 2011.

Rolls-Royce and this latest selection will further strengthen our relationship.”
 
The Trent 700 is the only engine specifically designed for the Airbus A330 and more than 1,000 are now in service or on firm order. The engine remains the market leader for the aircraft, capturing 75% of orders over the last three years. The engine is popular as it offers outstanding levels of performance while delivering the highest available thrust.
 
THAI, which already operates eight Trent 700-powered A330s, was launch customer for the Trent 800 on the Boeing 777 and now has 20 of the aircraft in its fleet. It also operates 10 Trent 500-powered Airbus A340s and has selected the Trent 900 to power six A380 aircraft, with all of the Trent fleet supported by TotalCare.
