Jamie Oliver’s new Italian to open in Birmingham

AN OPENING date for the Birmingham home of TV chef Jamie Oliver’s latest Italian restaurant has been announced.

The Jamie’s Italian eatery, in St Martin’s Square outside the Bullring shopping centre, will open its doors on November 8.

The restaurant is employing 95 local people including general manager Filippo Miccio and head chef Ryan Edge.

Fresh pasta will be made daily on the premises and the menu changes seasonally.

The new unit will form part of the Bullring’s planned Spiceal Street project which aims to create a restaurant hub on the site of the former Spiceal Street which was home to food markets in the 1700s.

Once completed, it will house Mr Oliver’s restaurant alongside Pizza Hut, Nando’s and Wagamama and three new restaurants.

Bullring’s general manager Tim Walley said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Jamie’s Italian to Bullring enhancing further our catering offer for the millions of visitors that come to the centre every year.”

Mr Walley said the restaurant would be a significant boost to Bullring’s Christmas season.

Mr Oliver said: “I’m so excited to be bringing Jamie’s Italian to Birmingham as it’s a place I’ve visited every year for the past 10 years for the BBC Good Food show, so I know Birmingham people love great food.

“The Birmingham restaurant is one of our biggest with 270 covers.”
