{"id":2026958,"date":"2019-03-01T08:04:15","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T08:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/westmidlands\/?p=2026958"},"modified":"2019-03-01T08:05:31","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T08:05:31","slug":"62m-funding-agreed-for-southern-link-road-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/westmidlands\/news\/2026958-62m-funding-agreed-for-southern-link-road-project","title":{"rendered":"\u00a362m funding agreed for Southern Link Road project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new dual carriageway in Worcestershire that will provide a key part of the infrastructure to support 5,600 new homes has received almost \u00a355m of government funding.<\/p>\n<p>Worcestershire County Council is contributing \u00a37.5m to the \u00a362m scheme for the Southern Link Road. The government funding comes from the Large Local Majors Fund, which funds infrastructure projects that will support economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>The dual carriageway will connect the M5 to the west of Worcestershire and Herefordshire, and provide a bypass to Worcester city centre, set to cut average journey times along the A4440 in both directions.<\/p>\n<p>The road will improve access to Worcestershire Parkway Station and cut journey times, with some peak-time journeys predicted to be halved.<\/p>\n<p>Roads Minister Jesse Norman said: &#8220;This new road will help improve everyday journeys in and around Worcester, easing traffic for local people in Worcestershire and Herefordshire, as well as supporting thousands of new homes and jobs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div
