{"id":2078914,"date":"2023-10-27T09:00:39","date_gmt":"2023-10-27T08:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/westmidlands\/?p=2078914"},"modified":"2023-10-27T09:49:50","modified_gmt":"2023-10-27T08:49:50","slug":"never-e-neuf-of-this-classic-red","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/westmidlands\/news\/2078914-never-e-neuf-of-this-classic-red","title":{"rendered":"Never e-neuf of this classic red"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>By Kiran Ghuman, MD, Octavian Security UK<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I have never had a bad Chateuneuf-Du-Pape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Believe me, I\u2019ve tried. <a href=\"https:\/\/wineclub.thebusinessdesk.com\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2108172 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/_files\/images\/Wine-Club-logo-300x100.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I was at the \u201cMasters\u201d awards this week and after a chat with the editor, Sam, the BusinessDesk team dropped me a line about reviewing some wine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oh, go on then!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The pressure was on and I knew I would have to approach this with rigour and diligence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After all, Octavian is in an industry that requires an eye for detail, so I would have to be absolutely sure of this before I felt secure enough to make such a bold statement as NEVER having had a bad bottle of this classic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The thing is, the name itself, thanks to excellent and consistent branding, is synonymous with quality. However, it is always backed up by the firmest of foundations (or \u201cterroir\u201d as I believe it is called) in that it never fails to deliver on taste.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You can have all the accolades in the world, all the heritage and brand equity but if you drop the ball on the basics you will soon lose that prestige.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Funnily enough, mention Chateuneuf-Du-Pape to a lot of people and many will expect an exorbitant price tag to go alongside the bottle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That is not the case or at least it does not need to be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There is a huge variety. We\u2019re not talking Heinz 57 here but the conservative amount is 13 (lucky for some) although I am told some wine experts argue for 22 \u201cauthorised\u201d grapes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Well, I\u2019m not counting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This variety means there is something for most budgets, from affordable to the truly eye-wateringly expensive and it is readily available all over the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What I really love is the beautiful balance. It has body, it has soul yet it is not too heavy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There is always that wine that on first sniff you think \u201cuh, oh, headache juice alert\u201d but these are consistently reliable,\u00a0 especially after a few hours of airing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sadly, I\u2019m writing this at my desk ahead of a busy week here at our new offices in Bingham so any further \u201cresearch\u201d will have to wait.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/barriquefinewines.com\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2112981 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/_files\/images\/aug_23\/BARRIQUE-15-OFF.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"523\" height=\"67\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Kiran Ghuman, MD, Octavian Security UK I have never had a bad Chateuneuf-Du-Pape.
