Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce is seeking applications for a new <\/span>president as Steve Harcourt, who is currently in the role, steps down later this year.<\/span><\/p>\n Following a governance review, the Chamber of Commerce has <\/span>ended a 120-year-old tradition of appointing a president from the board and aims to <\/span>widen the pool of potential candidates across its membership. The new president, <\/span>which is a non-executive role, will also act as an ambassador for the Chamber with <\/span>regional, national and international leaders and stakeholders.<\/span><\/p>\n The deadline for applications is <\/span>October 8.<\/span><\/p>\n Inviting applications for president of the Chamber is a new way of filling the position, <\/span>which was previously handed on from the current incumbent to the vice president.<\/span><\/p>\n Corin Crane, chief executive of Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, <\/span>said: \u201cFor the first time in 120 years, we have separated the role of chair and p<\/span>resident in order to recruit first class candidates that have the distinct skills to make <\/span>each role a success.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cOur new president must be a Chamber member and have the energy, business <\/span>experience and connections to make the role a success. We want someone who <\/span>personifies the entrepreneurial spirit of Coventry and Warwickshire and we\u2019ll support <\/span>them at every step to make the term unforgettable.<\/span><\/p>\n “We are so grateful to Steve for everything he has done over the past two years. He\u2019s <\/span>thrown himself into the role and, despite having a day job running a regional <\/span>accountancy business, he has been a fantastic advocate and ambassador for the <\/span>Chamber and the business community. He\u2019s been out to meet businesses of all sizes <\/span>and sectors to find out their issues, hear about new initiatives and see how they are <\/span>looking to grow.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe are now at the point where Steve will step down having served his maximum of <\/span>two years and we have decided to do it differently by asking business leaders to <\/span>apply for the role rather than simply handing on the chain to the \u2018next in line\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a great way to bring in some fresh new ideas and we look forward to seeing a <\/span>really strong list of applicants.
