Thorn Baker Group, one of the UK’s leading recruitment specialists in the construction sector, has

acquired Birmingham-based agency Valuestaff, in a strategic move that strengthens its presence across

the Midlands and creates fresh opportunities for businesses and jobseekers in the area.

Thorn Baker said in a statement that the acquisition, which took effect on 1 September, has already created a Midlands ‘super branch’ supplying skilled trades and labour across the region. Just four weeks in, it’s proving a real success – delivering faster responses, more candidate choice, and a stronger service for clients.

By combining Valuestaff’s local expertise with Thorn Baker’s national infrastructure, the deal delivers more scale, capability, and opportunities for clients, candidates, and staff alike.

The deal also marks the return of Valuestaff’s founder and MD Gregg Marrett to Thorn

Baker, where he originally launched the company’s Birmingham office in 2001, to take on a key

leadership role within the newly integrated structure.

Marrett will work closely with Andy Jordan, who continues to lead the Midlands Construction team.

Marrett said: “Valuestaff and Thorn Baker have always shared similar values – a focus on doing things properly, looking after our people, and building long-term partnerships with clients and candidates. Coming together gives us the resources and reach to do that on a bigger scale.”

The Valuestaff team has already fully integrated into Thorn Baker’s Birmingham office, benefiting from the Group’s central systems, compliance and payroll support, and its £1m investment in the Vincere

recruitment platform.

The move forms part of Thorn Baker’s wider strategy to invest in regional growth, boost employment in the Midlands, and build a stronger construction brand.

Paul Jackman, CEO of Thorn Baker Group, added: “This isn’t just about growth – it’s about creating

something better for everyone involved. For our clients, it means more reliable supply and an even stronger service. For candidates, it means more opportunities to work with trusted employers. And for our people, it means long-term career prospects, from internal promotions to the chance to grow with the business. We see this as a win for the Midlands economy as much as for Thorn Baker.”
