{"id":2104942,"date":"2025-11-11T07:54:47","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T07:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/westmidlands\/?p=2104942"},"modified":"2025-11-11T07:54:47","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T07:54:47","slug":"allied-pharmacies-takes-over-60-jhoots-branches-in-rescue-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/westmidlands\/news\/2104942-allied-pharmacies-takes-over-60-jhoots-branches-in-rescue-deal","title":{"rendered":"Allied Pharmacies takes over 60 Jhoots branches in rescue deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Allied Pharmacies has taken over 60 Jhoots branches following the <a class=\"underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/northwest\/news\/2162626-jhoots-pharmacies-cant-cure-financial-ills-as-22-businesses-enter-administration\">collapse of part of the pharmacy chain into administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">The St Helens-headquartered business said most of the sites are temporarily closed but it is committed to reinstating essential pharmacy services.<\/p>\n<p>More than 150 pharmacies traded under the Jhoots brand, although it has a complicated ownership structure with different parts of the chain operating independently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">The businesses had faced weeks of escalating concern over unpaid wages, with the Pharmacists&#8217; Defence Association highlighting more than \u00a3870,000 in outstanding locum fees. A range of criticisms were raised in Parliament last month, at at Prime Minister\u2019s Questions and at a separate session when Care Minister Stephen Kinnock acknowledged \u201cthe services provided by Jhoots are falling well below the mark\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">The takeover follows <a class=\"underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/northwest\/news\/2162626-jhoots-pharmacies-cant-cure-financial-ills-as-22-businesses-enter-administration\">22 Jhoots-linked businesses entering administration last week<\/a>, all controlled by director Nilam Patel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">A spokesperson from Allied Pharmacies said:\u00a0&#8220;While a variety of factors may have contributed to the difficulties at Jhoots Pharmacies, systemic underfunding for almost a decade has placed immense strain on many operators,&#8221; the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">&#8220;Without meaningful intervention at a national level, the collapse of other significant providers \u2013 as seen previously with Lloyds, and now Jhoots \u2013 could continue to affect patient care and the viability of community pharmacies nationwide.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Jhoots had <a class=\"underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/westmidlands\/news\/2080053-former-lloyds-pharmacy%E2%80%99s-snapped-up-with-17m-funding-package\/\">expanded rapidly after acquiring 36 Lloyds Pharmacy sites in November 2023<\/a> in a deal backed by \u00a317m of funding from HSBC.<\/p>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal break-words\">Allied Pharmacies said resuming pharmaceutical services as soon as possible is its immediate priority and also pledged to address outstanding salary arrears for former Jhoots employees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"whitespace-normal
