Coventry City Council has unveiled a new collaboration with job search platform Slenky which is designed to transform how young people access employment and development opportunities.<\/p>\n
Regional leaders gathered in Coventry this week to mark the launch of the partnership at an event titled ‘Late Lunch #1: Regional Leadership for Digital Youth Engagement’. It is the first in a new series bringing together local authorities, businesses, and education providers to rethink how the region presents career pathways to young people.<\/p>\n
Slenky is a digital platform that connects young people with real-world experiences tailored to their interests and ambitions. Founded by Cec Richards, Slenky offers ‘shots’, which are targeted opportunities that help young people gain practical experience and build momentum in their early careers.<\/p>\n
Richards said: \u201cWe all recognise the value of opportunity and taking your shot, that is something everyone on the panel today has been able to do to get where we are today. We need those opportunities to continue reach young people. Let\u2019s take the Midlands forward through this partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr Julie Nugent, chief executive of Coventry City Council, added: \u201cWe have to make sure opportunities aren\u2019t just about luck. The world of work is changing so rapidly, careers guidance is outdated and we need to build on how we connect with the next generation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must tap into new technologies in a way that is meaningful. We are hopeful that through Slenky we will be able to do that and make sure that young people in Coventry are getting the opportunities they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n
The launch featured a panel of high-profile speakers, including major business supporters of Slenky, users who have benefited from the platform, and football legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, a long-standing advocate for Slenky’s mission.<\/p>\n
Arcadis, Cue Media, Cubet, Business in the Community, B.E.SS and Severn Trent all supported the event.<\/p>\n
