Alucast has acquired the Moxley Industrial Estate in Wednesbury for \u00a31.8m, securing the site it has operated from for almost 65 years.<\/p>\n
The purchase safeguards the future of the three units currently occupied by Alucast and provides long-term stability for neighbouring occupiers, including Kingfisher Enamelling Company and BES Group Testing.<\/p>\n
Located close to the M6 and M5 motorways, the 5-acre estate, is regarded as a well-established hub within the regional manufacturing community.<\/p>\n
Tony Sartorius, chairman of Alucast, said: \u201cThe Moxley Industrial Estate has been our base for as long as I\u2019ve been with the company and has given us a great location to expand our high-pressure diecasting operations and our machine shops, which now boast 25 CNCs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe opportunity arose to purchase the site, which means we now have full control of our future. Black Country is and always will be our home, securing ownership means we have the opportunity to ringfence our expansion ambitions.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are plans in place to look at how we can make the buildings greener, helping boost sustainability and reducing energy costs at the same time for our business and our tenants.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alucast is unique within the UK foundry sector as the only business to operate all four major casting processes from a single site – sand, gravity, high-pressure and low-pressure casting.<\/p>\n
Combined with an extensive in-house machining capability, this integrated offer has enabled the company to build a global customer base across automotive, defence, construction products and rail, serving OEMs, tier one suppliers and prime contractors.<\/p>\n
The acquisition follows the recent appointment of Anthony Evans as chief executive, tasked with leading the next phase of growth as the business targets revenues of \u00a315m by 2028.<\/p>\n
Anthony Evans said: \u201cI\u2019ve known owners Tony Sartorius and John Swift for decades and have always respected what they\u2019ve achieved with Alucast. This made it a very easy decision when I was approached to become the new CEO.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got a big opportunity to innovate sand and low pressure casting by using new processes and materials, such as ALU-HPI, which produces an alloy that is one third of the weight of SG Iron yet still achieves key targets for ultimate tensile strength.<\/p>\n
\u201cUltimately, it means we can cast complex and lightweight components in rapid turnaround times. There\u2019s lots of potential for this in the US and this will be a key market for us going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
A former chairman of Sarginsons, Evans brings more than 40 years of experience in the casting sector, including international business development and advanced manufacturing technologies.<\/p>\n
He has also previously served as national president of the Institute of Cast Metals Engineers and is a member of The Worshipful Company of Founders.<\/p>\n
