A takeaway bakery and coffee shop has opened in Ironbridge following support from a start-up grant provided through Telford & Wrekin Council\u2019s Pride in Our High Street programme.<\/p>\n
Called Baked Bean, the project has been launched by local entrepreneurs Adam Purnell and Tess Sharp. It operates alongside their existing hospitality business, Embers Cafe, which is also based in the town.<\/p>\n
Located on the ground floor of 1 Waterloo Street, the new outlet focuses on takeaway baked goods, sandwiches and coffee, with an emphasis on locally sourced produce and artisan baking.<\/p>\n
All bakery products will be made on site by head baker Kieron Smith, while Bruce Sharp, previously manager at Embers Cafe, has moved into the role of shop manager for the new business.<\/p>\n
The menu includes pastries, cakes and cold sandwiches alongside fairtrade coffee supplied by Hundred House Coffee, a Shropshire-based roastery.<\/p>\n
The premises also includes a small retail section selling packaged local products such as jams, chutneys and coffee beans, as well as branded merchandise.<\/p>\n
Adam Purnell said: \u201cBuilding on the success of Embers Cafe, we want to create a welcoming, modern takeaway shop in the heart of Ironbridge that celebrates local craftsmanship in baking, ethical coffee, as well as providing exceptional customer experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cBaked Bean will combine the warmth of a traditional bakery with the style and quality of a boutique coffee house and we aim to attract both local residents and tourists visiting Ironbridge – a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its charm.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe already have a thriving business, Embers, and a following of loyal customers. At Baked Bean all of the produce will be made locally and our Head Baker has a first-class degree in pastry and bread making. This will ensure thar our products set us apart from what is already on offer in Ironbridge. Our coffee is all fairtrade and supplied by local business \u2013 Hundred House, which will elevate our offering.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Pride in Our High Street grant helped fund elements of the shop fit-out including painting, signage, and the installation of equipment such as a new coffee machine and till system.<\/p>\n
Councillor Ollie Vickers, Telford & Wrekin Council\u2019s Cabinet Member for the Economy and Transport said: \u201cIronbridge has many cafes already but the unique nature of Baked Bean will hopefully bring in both locals and visitors to the area.
