Adult Education Wolverhampton has been awarded an additional \u00a3675,000 in grant funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority to grow its adult and community learning programmes across the city.<\/p>\n
The funding will support Adult Education Wolverhampton\u2019s efforts to enhance literacy, numeracy, digital and English language skills, alongside higher-level employability training.<\/p>\n
The service also works closely with the Department for Work and Pensions and local employers to help residents access employment, self-employment, volunteering, or further study opportunities.<\/p>\n
Councillor Chris Burden, cabinet member for city development, jobs and skills said: \u201cThis additional funding is a great endorsement of the work Adult Education Wolverhampton is doing to support our residents – and we are proud that Wolverhampton is one of only five areas in the West Midlands to receive this investment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know that engaging people in their neighbourhoods and supporting them to identify their individual goals and aspirations \u2013 while also helping them to remove any barriers with wraparound support – can be transformative. Improving skills not only builds confidence and resilience but also enhances well-being and opens up access to better opportunities. It also helps ensure that every resident, no matter their background, has the chance to learn and contribute to their city.\u201d<\/p>\n
Among the beneficiaries is Prabjot Kaur, a single mother of three, who began her learning journey through Family Learning sessions at St Luke\u2019s Primary School.<\/p>\n
Starting with Digital Skills for Parents and Online Safety for Parents, Prabjot gained confidence to continue learning with Phonics for Parents and community-based English classes.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cI really struggled with confidence and believing in myself. As a single mother of three children, it was difficult to find time to do something for myself. The Family Learning sessions helped me believe in myself again and helped me to be me again.\u201d<\/p>\n
Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, added: \u201cMaking learning opportunities available to people close to their homes can change lives. Community learning can be a great steppingstone to further learning \u2013 preparing people for work and getting them on the path to a rewarding career.<\/p>\n
