Tyseley Depot in Southeast Birmingham has undergone a \u00a370m redevelopment to support West Midlands Railway\u2019s Class 196 fleet and improve operational efficiency across the region.<\/p>\n
The main shed was extended to accommodate 38 vehicles, with new inspection facilities, train lifting equipment, and a 302-panel solar array expected to generate 124,000 kWh annually.<\/p>\n
Delivered over three years by Spencer Rail Engineering using an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) approach, the project benefited from collaborative planning and execution that optimised timelines and minimised disruption.<\/p>\n
Upgrades ensure the depot can handle Class 196 trains serving Birmingham Snow Hill and new stations on the Camp Hill Line, while integrating renewable energy and improved maintenance infrastructure to support future operations.<\/p>\n
The redevelopment forms part of WMR\u2019s broader \u00a31bn investment in trains and infrastructure.<\/p>\n
