Birmingham Women\u2019s and Children\u2019s NHS Foundation Trust has rolled out Aria, an AI-powered platform providing 24\/7 mental health support for staff.<\/p>\n
The move aims to help manage rising burnout and sickness absence across the NHS.<\/p>\n
Developed by Midlands-based Medstars, Aria offers confidential access to therapy and wellbeing guidance, complementing existing occupational health and employee assistance programmes.<\/p>\n
The platform uses evidence-based approaches to support common issues such as stress, anxiety, and low mood, while helping users connect with appropriate care when needed.<\/p>\n
Early data shows that around 85% of users feel better after their first session, with 40% resolving their concerns without further intervention.<\/p>\n
Raffaela Goodby, chief people officer at the trust said: \u201cSupporting our colleagues\u2019 wellbeing is essential. Aria offers secure, accessible mental health support for staff whenever needed. We\u2019ll closely monitor uptake, feedback, and impact on absence as part of our workforce strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rob Markwell, chief executive of Medstars said: \u201cTrusts face growing pressure to find scalable solutions that support staff earlier and ease demand on services. Aria is designed to align with NHS workforce priorities around prevention and early intervention. It guides individuals into the right pathways at the right time, without fear of stigma. We are already seeing people come forward, engaging early and being referred into appropriate support services.\u201d<\/p>\n
The platform is priced at 50-70 pence per user per month, with a low-impact implementation requiring minimal IT integration and no formal training.<\/p>\n
