Alfred Works is set to expand its leisure offer next month with the launch of a new outdoor social space and sports bar in Birmingham’s Digbeth district.

The new concept, named Alfresco at Alfred Works, will open in early May and is designed to combine dining, live sport, family activities and events in one city-centre venue.

To mark the launch, the opening weekend will feature a programme of drop-in events and workshops, giving visitors a first look at the new facilities.

At the heart of the scheme is an indoor sports bar with capacity for up to 300 guests, featuring large-format screens for live sport alongside a social bar setting aimed at both major fixtures and casual gatherings.

The wider venue will also include table tennis, an outdoor cinema and a permanent fried chicken kitchen operating from a container unit to provide year-round food and drink options.

Outside, a large open-air area has been created for food, music and events, with three outdoor kitchen units focused on BBQ-style dining, communal seating, a DJ booth and flexible activity space.

The outdoor section will include canopy cover to provide shelter and shade, while remaining accessible throughout the year.

A dedicated children’s play area is also being introduced, centred around a ship-themed climbing structure with interactive and sensory features. Surrounding seating areas will remain open year-round, even when seasonal food outlets are closed.

The expansion builds on Alfred Works’ existing mix of independent kitchens and casual social space, with operators aiming to create a broader all-day destination for Birmingham visitors, families and city-centre workers.
