{"id":2111382,"date":"2026-05-05T10:27:48","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T09:27:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/westmidlands\/?p=2111382"},"modified":"2026-05-05T10:27:48","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T09:27:48","slug":"herefordshire-transport-upgrades-gather-pace-as-delivery-programme-moves-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/westmidlands\/news\/2111382-herefordshire-transport-upgrades-gather-pace-as-delivery-programme-moves-forward","title":{"rendered":"Herefordshire transport upgrades gather pace as delivery programme moves forward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"86\" data-end=\"297\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Herefordshire Council<\/span><\/span> is progressing a multimillion-pound programme of transport and infrastructure improvements, with the majority of schemes expected to be completed within the next 18 months.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"299\" data-end=\"613\">The programme, valued at more than \u00a327m and supported by \u00a319.9m in Levelling Up funding, covers a range of projects aimed at improving connectivity, supporting active travel and enhancing safety across the county.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"299\" data-end=\"613\">It forms part of a wider \u00a337m investment into roads, highways and public spaces planned for 2026\/27.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"615\" data-end=\"931\">Nine major schemes are scheduled for delivery within the next year and a half, including upgrades to key routes and local roads linking communities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"615\" data-end=\"931\">Works include resurfacing around 20 miles of road, alongside preventative maintenance on a further 64 miles to extend network lifespan and reduce the risk of potholes.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2337\" data-end=\"2570\">Cllr Philip Price, Herefordshire Council\u2019s Cabinet Member for Transport and Infrastructure, said: \u201cWe are delivering one of the most significant programmes of transport and infrastructure investment the county has seen in many years. This strong progress provides a clear picture of where each project sits and when people can expect to see improvements delivered.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2705\" data-end=\"2853\">\u201cMany schemes are already complete or nearing completion, while others are progressing through design so construction can begin as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2855\" data-end=\"3006\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">\u201cThese investments will help improve connectivity, support economic growth and create safer, healthier ways for people to travel across Herefordshire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"933\" data-end=\"1224\">Projects are spread across Hereford and surrounding areas, with improvements planned or underway on routes such as the A44 in Leominster, the A438 Ledbury Road and the A465 Belmont Road.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"933\" data-end=\"1224\">Alongside road upgrades, the programme includes a focus on walking, cycling and safer routes to schools.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1226\" data-end=\"1500\">The Hereford Transport Hub remains one of the flagship schemes and is now around 65% complete, with an expected opening in October 2026.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1226\" data-end=\"1500\">The project aims to improve integration between bus and rail services while enhancing the public space around the city\u2019s railway station.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1502\" data-end=\"1882\">Elsewhere, construction is underway on active travel improvements along Holme Lacy Road, currently around 30% complete, while cycle route upgrades in north Hereford are nearing completion.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1502\" data-end=\"1882\">A number of neighbourhood schemes, including traffic reduction measures around schools and the introduction of 20mph zones, are also progressing, with some works due to begin later this year.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1884\" data-end=\"2109\">Further projects are moving through the design phase, including walking and cycling improvements at Aylestone Hill and upgrades to Commercial Road, Blueschool Street and Newmarket, with construction expected to start in 2027.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2335\">The programme sits within the council\u2019s wider Delivery Plan for 2026\/27, which outlines investment across transport, housing and economic growth, with a focus on improving infrastructure and supporting long-term development.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2855\" data-end=\"3006\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A multimillion-pound
