Train services between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury have resumed after Network Rail completed emergency repairs following a freight train derailment near Oxley.<\/p>\n

The incident, which took place on Tuesday evening, saw a wagon come off the tracks at low speed, causing significant damage to railway infrastructure, including overhead power lines and track equipment. No injuries were reported and no other trains were involved.<\/p>\n

Since the derailment, engineering teams have been working around the clock to recover the freight wagon and restore the route, which is used by both passenger and freight services. Repairs included the replacement of damaged overhead line equipment and the installation of a new signal and support structure to allow trains to safely return to operation.<\/p>\n

While passenger services are now running again, additional repair and recovery works will continue alongside the live railway, including the replacement of around 100 sleepers and 60 metres of rail on a neighbouring freight line.<\/p>\n

Martin Colmey, operations director for Network Rail\u2019s Central route, said: \u201cThis has been a hugely challenging situation, but our teams have worked tirelessly to safely reopen the railway for passengers. Although the derailment happened at low speed, it caused significant damage to the track and overhead power lines, making this a complex recovery.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019d like to thank passengers for their patience while we carried out this work, and we encourage people to continue checking before they travel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Network Rail said it is continuing to work with the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) to determine the cause of the derailment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
