Secure Trust Bank Commercial Finance (STB CF), the asset-based lending arm of Secure Trust Bank, has launched a new Speciality Finance division targeting UK non-bank specialist lenders.<\/p>\n
The new unit will focus on providing tailored funding solutions to established lenders operating in real estate finance, SME lending and consumer finance.<\/p>\n
It will be led by newly appointed head of speciality finance Mike Knox, who brings more than 20 years of experience across real estate, restructuring and financial institutions, having previously established a speciality finance offering at Cynergy Bank.<\/p>\n
Knox said: \u201cThe specialist lending market has really matured over recent years, with a number of well-established lenders with strong origination capability and proven credit performance creating a multi-billion pound market. However, many of these lenders are either over-reliant on a single funding line, operating facilities that don\u2019t fit their collateral, or are leaving growth on the table. This is where the opportunity lies for us to provide a more tailored solution for specialist lenders, becoming a true capital partner.\u201d<\/p>\n
The division is set to expand its team over the course of the year, with a focus on relationship-led growth rather than high-volume lending, reflecting a long-term partnership approach with clients.<\/p>\n
A key part of this build-out is the appointment of head of credit, Talal Malghani, who joins from ThinCats where he served as senior director, Capital Markets and contributed to its growth and eventual sale to Shawbrook. He previously held senior roles at NatWest, specialising in structured finance and specialist lending advisory.<\/p>\n
Malghani will lead credit and underwriting for the division, with responsibility for developing scalable processes as the business grows its market presence.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cGiven STB\u2019s reputation as a highly respected specialist and well-capitalised bank, this provides the perfect platform for us to support speciality lenders across multiple asset classes with their growth aspirations.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new division builds on existing activity within STB CF, which has already supported a range of specialist finance businesses. These include a \u00a330m facility for marine mortgage provider Promarine Finance, a \u00a310m facility for PayItMonthly, and a \u00a325m facility increase for car repair finance platform Bumper, taking its total funding to \u00a360m.<\/p>\n
