HS2 has awarded an \u00a3856m contract to a joint venture between Taylor Woodrow Infrastructure and Aureos Rail to deliver the Rolling Stock Depot and Network Integrated Control Centre at Washwood Heath.<\/p>\n
The scheme will create approximately 1,000 permanent roles once operational, alongside around 500 construction jobs during the build phase.<\/p>\n
The wider project will transform a 70-hectare brownfield site into a fully integrated rail operations base supporting HS2 services.<\/p>\n
Facilities will include maintenance buildings, a carriage wash, automated inspection systems, sidings for train storage and a test track, alongside the Network Integrated Control Centre responsible for managing train operations across the network.<\/p>\n
Additional land within the site will be released for commercial development and new green infrastructure, supporting broader regeneration ambitions in east Birmingham.<\/p>\n
HS2 Ltd Area Director Steve Cox said: \u201cOnce complete, HS2 will transform journeys between Britain\u2019s two largest cities, freeing up space on the existing West Coast Main Line for more freight and local services. The new depot and control centre at Washwood Heath will be at the heart of our day-to-day operation and play a crucial role in the testing and commissioning of the railway.<\/p>\n

Early works on the site, including demolition and ground remediation, have already been carried out by HS2\u2019s regional construction partner, preparing the former industrial land for redevelopment.<\/p>\n
