Pailton Engineering has continued its investment programme at its Coventry facility with a series of new machinery upgrades.

The move is designed to boost production capacity, improve reliability and bring more manufacturing processes in-house.

The latest upgrades follow the installation of a collaborative robot on the factory floor and form part of a wider strategy to modernise operations across the site.

It also replaces ageing legacy equipment and supports the reshoring of previously outsourced work back into Coventry.

A key addition is the Sykes V400 gear cutting machine, which enables both internal and external gear production. The installation marks a significant milestone for the business, allowing internal gears to be manufactured on-site for the first time.

The company has also introduced a Barber-Colman gear cutting machine to increase capacity within its gear manufacturing operations, helping to meet rising customer demand.

Dave Pound, managing director at Pailton Engineering said: “This investment is all about making our Coventry operations stronger and more resilient. By upgrading our equipment and bringing more processes in-house, we’re boosting reliability and supporting production capacity to help customers across the UK and wider West Midlands manufacturing base.

“These upgrades also build on the recent addition of a new collaborative robot. It’s part of our move toward smarter, more connected manufacturing. The six-axis robot works safely alongside our team, helping with precision assembly and component testing. It improves repeatability and efficiency, while still complementing the skills of our people.”

Further upgrades include a Puma DNT2100M machining centre, installed in January, which replaces equipment that had been in operation for nearly 25 years. The new machine offers improved reliability, faster processing speeds and enhanced capability, with the option to integrate collaborative robotics support.

Additional investment includes a Pedrazzoli SB160 swaging machine, replacing an older unit to improve consistency and production performance, along with a TT1800SY turning centre installed in the shaft cell to deliver higher output and improved operational efficiency.
