The owner of Poundland, Gordon Brothers, is said to be nearing a deal to acquire British handbag brand Radley through a pre-pack administration process.<\/p>\n
The agreement could be finalised as soon as today. It is expected to centre on Radley\u2019s brand, design rights and wider intellectual property, rather than its operational retail estate.<\/p>\n
As reported by Sky News, restructuring specialist FTI Consulting is set to be appointed to handle the administration process.<\/p>\n
Radley operates across the UK through a mix of standalone stores and wider retail distribution. Its physical presence has historically included locations in London, outlet centres and major regional shopping destinations, alongside concessions in department stores.<\/p>\n
Radley was put up for sale earlier this year by private equity owner Freshstream, which has backed the handbag maker for around a decade.<\/p>\n
The brand has been exploring strategic options amid ongoing pressure in the mid-market accessories sector. Gordon Brothers had previously emerged as one of the leading bidders during the process.<\/p>\n
The company has been facing challenging trading conditions. For the year ending April 2025, Radley reported a \u00a32.2m loss, while revenue fell to \u00a365.8m from \u00a372m.<\/p>\n
Accounts also show a reduction in headcount, with employees falling from 450 in 2024 to 401 in 2025,<\/p>\n
The firm has also been reshaping its international footprint, particularly in the US market, which accounts for a meaningful share of sales. Recent filings showed costs linked to exiting several store leases, reflecting a broader shift away from physical retail expansion.<\/p>\n
Founded in the late 1990s by Australian designer Lowell Harder, Radley grew from a Camden Market stall into a well-known British accessories brand. It built a reputation for accessible premium leather goods and expanded through department stores, wholesale partners and its own retail stores.<\/p>\n
In recent years, the business has focused on strengthening its digital and omnichannel operations as consumer behaviour has shifted online. It is currently led by chief executive Nick Vance.<\/p>\n
