Birmingham-based contractor Hedigan Construction has been appointed to support the delivery of a new multi-million-pound battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Caterham, Surrey.<\/p>\n
The scheme is being developed by Root-Power, a specialist in BESS projects and part of YLEM Energy Group, and is scheduled to begin construction later this year.<\/p>\n
Once complete, the 12MW facility will help balance supply and demand on the electricity network and support grid stability during peak periods.<\/p>\n
Hedigan Construction, based in Moseley, will deliver enabling and civil engineering works on the site, including groundworks, earthworks, levelling, drainage, ducting, fencing and reinforced concrete structures to prepare the land for installation.<\/p>\n
The company provides turnkey construction and project management services across energy, infrastructure, utilities, quarrying and waste sectors in the UK and Ireland.<\/p>\n
The Caterham site has been selected for its proximity to key grid connection points and local demand requirements, with developers expecting it to contribute to reducing price volatility and improving network flexibility.<\/p>\n
