BDO will offer more than 100 places to young people across the Midlands this summer as part of an expanded programme aimed at improving access to careers in accountancy and professional services.<\/p>\n
The firm will host three Insight Days at its Birmingham office in July, giving 105 school, college and university students aged 16 and over the opportunity to gain workplace experience, develop employability skills and learn more about careers in the sector.<\/p>\n
The initiative forms part of BDO’s expanded UK-wide Insight Days programme, which will provide more than 1,100 places for young people nationwide.<\/p>\n
Students taking part will attend interactive workshops, employability skills sessions, networking opportunities and social impact activities designed to provide an insight into working in professional services.<\/p>\n
The programme comes as new research from BDO’s Young Minds 2026: The Unequal Advantage report found that 72% of young people in the Midlands now use digital sources to inform their career decisions. The research also highlighted continuing disparities in access to work experience, careers advice and professional networks for young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.<\/p>\n
As part of the programme, the sessions will be delivered by BDO’s first-year trainees across audit, tax, deals, consulting, risk and outsourcing teams.<\/p>\n
The initiative is also designed to help the firm’s early-career employees develop leadership, team-building and community engagement skills.<\/p>\n
Louise Sayers, head of people, culture and purpose at BDO, said: “The transition from education into the workplace can feel overwhelming for many young people, particularly those who may not have access to professional networks or workplace experience through family or personal connections.<\/p>\n
“These Insight Days are designed to help young people better understand the opportunities available to them, build confidence and meet people who have already started their careers in the profession.”<\/p>\n

It’s important that students can see relatable role models and hear first-hand experiences from people at the beginning of their own career journeys.”<\/p>\n
