Birmingham precision engineering specialist Rowan Precision has completed a major energy efficiency programme across its CNC manufacturing facility, combining new LED lighting, solar PV, automated energy monitoring and a high-efficiency compressor.<\/p>\n
The programme is projected to cut annual energy consumption by more than 104,000 kWh and save an estimated 23.63 tonnes of CO2e each year.<\/p>\n
It followed a two-year process developed with Oxford Innovation through the Future Fit Manufacturing programme, and a detailed site assessment carried out with energy specialist Nersi Salehi of ProEnviro.<\/p>\n
That process identified four priority investments: LED lighting, an automated monitoring and targeting system, solar PV and an upgraded compressor.<\/p>\n
Grant approval secured in December 2025 allowed the company to move quickly into implementation, supported by specialist partners including Ryan Goodswen Electrical, Custom Energy Solutions, SRC Northwest and West Midlands Compressors.<\/p>\n
Chief financial officer Glenn Aston said: “The difference the new lighting has made across the shop floor is immediately visible. It has transformed the manufacturing environment, giving us brighter and more consistent illumination across production areas while using energy considerably more efficiently.<\/p>\n
“That is what we mean when we talk about responsible investment. We are investing in areas that make Rowan Precision a more efficient business, create an excellent environment for our people and strengthen the operation we provide for customers.”<\/p>\n
The company’s solar PV installation generated 6,458 kWh of clean electricity between mid-February and the end of March 2026 alone, avoiding around 1.14 tonnes of CO2e.<\/p>\n
The automated monitoring system gives Rowan Precision greater visibility over energy consumption patterns, which Aston said allowed the business to identify further efficiencies and measure the impact of improvements over time.<\/p>\n
Technical sales manager Neil Williams said the upgrade had made a clear difference to how the business presents itself to customers: “Manufacturing environments say a great deal about a business. When customers walk onto our shop floor, they can see the standards we set ourselves. The LED lighting has made a significant difference to the whole environment. It feels bright, modern and purposeful, and it complements the investment we continue to make in our manufacturing capability.”<\/p>\n
Rowan Precision, established in 1984 and now part of OSYS Rowan Limited, is an AS9100-accredited precision engineering business serving aerospace, defence, medical, automotive and advanced engineering customers.
