Birmingham-headquartered Melrose Industries has announced a $100m claims programme for residents and businesses affected by an incident at GKN Aerospace’s Garden Grove facility in California, alongside confirmation that the site will resume full manufacturing on 28 September.<\/p>\n

The claims programme, expected to launch in the coming weeks and remain open into 2027, will reimburse those eligible for costs linked to the May evacuation order, including hotel stays, meals, transportation, lost wages and loss of use. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office has also closed its criminal investigation into the incident and confirmed no charges will be brought.<\/p>\n

GKN said it had cooperated fully with all investigations, and that today’s developments marked a significant step towards resolving the OCDAO’s civil investigation, though claims from emergency services agencies and any civil enforcement penalties will be handled separately.<\/p>\n

The company<\/a> has permanently decommissioned the tank involved in the incident and made substantial safety investments at the site since it occurred.<\/p>\n

Manufacturing is set to resume in a phased return to full capacity and customer deliveries through the fourth quarter. Melrose said its associated insurance position remained under review, with further updates to follow.<\/p>\n

It follows Melrose’s half-year results in July<\/a>, when the incident reduced revenue and adjusted operating profit by \u00a316m and \u00a39m respectively, and the company paused its \u00a3175m share buyback programme pending clarification of the incident’s financial impact. Despite that hit, adjusted operating profit still rose 16% to \u00a3347m for the half.<\/p>\n

The Garden Grove facility, operated by GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems, designs and manufactures advanced military and commercial transparencies and employs around 500 people, generating \u00a3136m in sales for the 2025 financial year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
