Bradford Estates has added five electric vans to its fleet as the landed estates business continues to invest in lower-carbon operations across its 12,000-acre portfolio.<\/p>\n
The Volkswagen Transporters, each offering a range of up to 190 miles, will be used by staff working across the estate\u2019s property, farming, forestry and leisure operations.<\/p>\n
The move forms part of a wider environmental programme being rolled out across the Shropshire-Staffordshire border estate.<\/p>\n
Chris Hodson, Bradford Estates managing director said: \u201cThe introduction of these five zero-emission electric vehicles provides a fantastic step forward in reducing our operational carbon footprint across the diverse Bradford Estates activities. By upgrading our day-to-day transport to electric vans, we are ensuring that our team on the ground can manage our assets in the most sustainable way possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
The business, which traces its history back to 1066, is following a 100-year plan focused on renewable energy, woodland creation, soil health and circular economy principles.<\/p>\n
Solar panels were installed at its Weston-under-Lizard office in 2024, with the aim of reducing reliance on the electricity grid. Power generated on site is used across the offices and existing electric vehicle fleet, with surplus energy stored in batteries or exported to the grid.<\/p>\n
A 200kW solar array was also installed at Woodlands Farm in 2023. The system supplies power for grain and crop drying, including produce grown by local farmers.<\/p>\n
The farm building was constructed using lower-carbon concrete and fitted with advanced energy controls as part of Bradford Estates\u2019 wider net-zero programme.<\/p>\n
