{"id":2118174,"date":"2026-10-13T12:27:48","date_gmt":"2026-10-13T11:27:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/westmidlands\/?p=2118174"},"modified":"2026-10-13T12:27:48","modified_gmt":"2026-10-13T11:27:48","slug":"grants-of-up-to-15000-to-get-veterans-into-sport-ahead-of-invictus-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/westmidlands\/news\/2118174-grants-of-up-to-15000-to-get-veterans-into-sport-ahead-of-invictus-games","title":{"rendered":"Grants of up to \u00a315,000 to get veterans into sport ahead of Invictus Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">The Veterans\u2019 Foundation has become an official partner of the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, launching a UK-wide programme to widen access to adaptive sport for wounded, injured and sick serving personnel and veterans.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Through the programme, called Access Unconquered, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.veteransfoundation.org.uk\/\">the charity<\/a> will offer grants of between \u00a31,000 and \u00a315,000 to organisations across the UK that use adaptive sport to improve physical and mental health, build confidence and strengthen connections. Applications open at the beginning of November.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The University of Birmingham will work with the Games to evaluate the impact of the funded projects, building evidence on how adaptive sport affects the health and wellbeing of the Armed Forces community.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Birmingham 2027 will be the first time the Invictus Games have returned to the UK since the first Games were held in London in 2014.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Jane Gurney, chief executive of the Veterans\u2019 Foundation, said: \u201cBy working with the University of Birmingham, we can build new knowledge around adaptive sport and military health that has the potential to improve support for the Armed Forces community long after Birmingham 2027.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Jules Merrison, director of impact at Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, said: \u201cThe Games are about much more than the competition. Birmingham 2027 gives us a unique opportunity to use the reach and profile of the Games to create meaningful change for the Armed Forces community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Mark Ormrod, a Veterans\u2019 Foundation ambassador and four-time Invictus Games Team UK competitor, said: \u201cThere are thousands of wounded, injured and sick serving personnel and veterans who will never compete at an Invictus Games. They should still have the opportunity to find out what adaptive sport can do for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Since launching in 2016, the Veterans\u2019 Foundation has awarded \u00a340m in grants to more than 600 charitable organisations.
