The first residents are set to move into a new £20m retirement community in Newport, Shropshire, next month, after construction firm McPhillips handed over the first phase.

Sundew Court, developed for later living specialist Untold Living, includes around 40 apartments, a restaurant and bar, a library, a hairdressing salon and communal areas.

Work started in autumn 2024. A second block of apartments and the final bungalows, 16 in total, are due to be completed in spring 2027.

McPhillips director Chris Walker said: “Handing over the first phase of Sundew Court is a proud moment for our team and a milestone for Newport.

“There is a national shortage of good-quality homes for older people and we won’t close that gap by building the way we always have. Using Modern Methods of Construction on this project has allowed us to build faster, with less waste and less disruption for neighbours, without compromising on quality.”

Adrian Pickard, general manager of Sundew Court, said: “Handing over the keys is when a building becomes a community. Our first residents move in next month and we’re looking forward to welcoming them, helping them settle in and seeing friendships form over a meal in the restaurant or a drink in the bar.”

Elsewhere in Shropshire, Pallas Capital provided a £3.9m loan to fund the next phase of a residential scheme near Market Drayton in September.
